Salt Ponds The southern part of Bonaire is a narrow strip of land that separates
the salt ponds from the ocean. Sea water is let into the ponds and then the sun and wind take about a
year to evaporate the water and leave the salt behind. The white hills on the right are the
harvested salt. oil
